Olympic Voyager Wins New Cruise Ship Award
Royal Olympic Cruise Lines Inc. was the focus of attention when their new 28 knot Olympic Voyager was singled out at the prestigious Cruise and Ferry Awards 2001 as the most significant cruise ship newbuilding in the past two years.
The event, which was hosted at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, saw the Olympic Voyager take the top prize amongst fierce competition for pioneering the fast cruise concept. Major competition for the award came from Royal Caribbean and Star Clippers. In total 41 finalists were short-listed for the 11 awards presented.
The panel of judges, who were chosen from such organizations as the International Maritime Organization, the Maritime Hotel Academy and the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, were industry professionals recognizing initiatives in design work, safety, environmental protection, technology and shipboard services.
The Olympic Voyager was built by the German shipyard Blohm+Voss and delivered to the company in June 2000.
